How are the hostels at the Thiagarajar School of Management?

Thiagarajar School of Management, or TSM for short, is a private management school with a huge lush-green 17-acre campus situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1962 by Shri Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, the great industrialist, and philanthropist. The institute began with an Executive Development Programme meant for enhancing the skills of working entrepreneurs and managers in Madurai. The huge success of this program, coupled with the numerous accolades from the industry, helped the institute to kick-start a part-time MBA programme in the year 1972 with the full time MBA course launching in 1986.

At present, TSM offers MBA and PGDM programme approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditations), New Delhi. It is now an autonomous institute affiliated under the Madurai Kamaraj University. The admission to the management programs is made on the basis of all-India entrance examinations such as MAT and CAT as well as TANCET, which is a test carried out by the state government.

Since it is a part of the Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar foundation and operated as a philanthropic institute, it is known for its transparent and low fee structure, which ensures that it is not far from the reach of deserving students. Not only this, but the trust also provides part or full scholarships to deserving students.

TSM has a great ratio of students to full-time faculty, and most of the faculty members have doctorates from prestigious colleges, including IIMs and IITs. The institute employs eminent faculty members from various fields, including Finance, Marketing, Production and System, and Human Resources. Due to this, the students receive deep insights along with hands-on practical and theoretical knowledge about the workings of the industry. Few motivated students even get to assist their faculty members with consultancy and research as well.

Placement Record

In today’s world of stiff competition increasing every second, the placement opportunities that a college provides has become the benchmark for excellence. TSM students are exposed to varied functional areas, including Finance, Marketing, Operations and HR as well as a variety of industry verticals including FMCGs, Banking, Finance, Software, Consulting and Manufacturing. Intending to take their students to the pinnacle of the industry, the placement cell at TSM constantly strives to build everlasting bonds with their corporate partners. The process of placement begins with 3-month summer internship programs after the first year is completed. During the last few years, a large number of final year students of MBA and PGDM have received dual offers due to the presence of numerous new companies on campus during the placement drives.

Besides inviting companies for the placement process, the placement cell at TSM also focuses on developing a problem-solving and analytical approach in the students. This is done using a variety of techniques like quantitative analytics as well as holistic case analysis. The students are constantly provided with training on various areas of importance, including spoken Hindi and soft skills. Students are also provided with crash courses on computer applications and statistics to improve their chances of placement.

TSM has a beautiful lush green campus where students are encouraged to lead an eco-friendly life amidst the surroundings of 9 thousand trees serving as home to numerous exotic species of birds as well as small mammals. The 17-acre campus is covered with vegetation plants and colourful flowers, adding to its beauty. It houses more than 35000 square feet of serene green lawns which provides a great opportunity for students to relax and help improve learning. The idea behind having a green campus is to help keep students away from pollution and help keep the environment carbon-neutral, making the experience of studying at TSM unparalleled.
